I woke up at 4:30am. I wanted to get an early start back to Williams. The trip from Carrie's home to my home is about 441 miles --- roughly a seven hour drive. As I was driving from Orange County, I captured beautiful skies as the sun was rising in the east.
I arrived home at about 12:30pm. Tom greeted me. It was nice to be home! Tom had prepared two meals for the next two days. It is fun that he likes to cook and that he is a great cook. We now can share in the meal preparation responsibilities. That night, I found a long stem red rose on my side of the bed. How very thoughtful!
Tuesday, I picked up the dogs at Cinder Hills Kennel. While they had a great time there, they always love coming home. With three dogs, it costs over $100.00 per day to board them. It is expensive, but my dogs are priceless. That night, Tom barbecued a nice London Broil steak with mushrooms, corn on the cob, and a mixed green salad. It was delicious
Look at those beautiful plates of food!
Our DirecTV connection was no longer available. We were getting no signal. Tom and I both tried to troubleshoot the problem. I called DirecTV and they were very responsive. A technician arrived that very afternoon. First of all, he said the satellite dish was in the wrong area of the home --- no satellite dish should be placed over living space. So, Mike got on the roof and took down the dish.
The problem with the connection was that we were receiving no signals from the satellites in the skies. So, Mike found a good place for the dish that was within code and that received excellent reception.
I have decided to try to grow out my hair. My sister Carrie's hair stylist gave her a hair style that she thought would look good on me. Shawna, my hair stylist in Flagstaff, liked the photo too. It is just the challenge of allowing the hair to grow out. I would not want it quite this long. But, we will see how it all goes.
Tom brought back to Williams a Honda Big Ruckus motorcycle that is owned by his son, Jon. Tom has been working on it, in order to eventually sell it on Craigslist. The dogs thought it would be good to help him with the effort!
Two painters, Lonny and Dave, came over to the house to evaluate a painting project. There are several areas that need to be painted --- the Master bedroom office/reading room, the headboard wall, and the bathroom. Lonny and Dave prefer to do "inside" painting during the monsoon season which is now.
They will be returning on Monday, August 7th to begin the project.
One of the afternoons when I was walking the dogs, I saw a great photo opportunity at nearby Cataract Lake.
Don and Pinky Eastman are long-time friends. Don and Richard went to UCLA Law School together. They were also Phi Kap fraternity brothers. It has always been special keeping in contact with them over the years. Their son Brian, and his family, recently moved to Boulder, Colorado. Don and Pinky live in Pebble Beach and they made a road trip to visit Brian, Vicky, and Cole. On the way home, the Eastmans came for a visit and stayed two nights at Casa Ebbert.
It had been a number of years since Pinky and Don had been to the Grand Canyon. So, it made sense to drive out to the canyon for part of the day. Since I worked and lived at the South Rim for several years, I knew where to park the car at the rim and how to see many of the highlights in a two-hour visit. Off we went!
We secured the last parking spot in my "secret" rim parking lot. Then, we walked along the rim --- from the Bright Angel trail head to the El Tovar Hotel. Don is a magnificent photographer, so he really knows how to capture the beauty of the canyon.
And then, there is always the obligatory photos of canyon visitors!
The last two stops at the canyon were the Yavapai Geological Museum (where you can see the Colorado River and the black bridge) and Trailer Village (where Richard and I lived in our 5th wheel from October 2006 to August 2009).
Friday night, the Highland Meadows community --- where I live --- had a pot-luck dinner at one of the fairway homes. Dee and Greg have provided their home for this bi-monthly event over the years. This was the first time I attended. And of course, Tom's first time too.
The theme was Mexican. I prepared a green Mexican salad --- found with a Google internet search and a radish and green peas suggestion by Pinky Eastman! The food was delicious and plentiful. The margaritas were not too bad either 😊!!!
On Saturday, we met Stephanie and Joe Hap for an early lunch at Rod's Steak House in Williams. It was a happening day, as there was a car show on the main street, Route 66. It is an annual event, Cool Country Cruise In, and displayed are classic cars from the 1950s and 1960s.
Tom, Stephanie, and Joe liked Rod's. I have enjoyed it several times over the last three years. In my experience, the service has not been reliable. But, our female Hispanic server this visit was great! Stephanie and I could not wait to pose with the big mascot cow!
When I was in Eastern Europe, Tom undertook a project. The second facet in the master bathroom had been leaking for several years. Richard learned to live with it. So, this was a photo I received on my trip.
Very interesting!
Fortunately, parts were ordered from China. While it took several weeks to receive the new items, Tom was successful in putting "humpty dumpty" back together again.
And voila! No more leaks.
On Monday, Tom and I took advantage of clearing skies and road our bikes into town and back.
