Sunday, August 1 through Tuesday, August 31, 2021: Life in Williams, Dogs Mending, and Flagstaff Obligations

There was no pickleball play this Sunday morning. So, I walked in the Highland Meadows neighborhood --- which included a stroll to Cataract Lake. The clouds were gorgeous as I looked up to Bill Williams Mountain.
The clouds right across the street from our house were beautiful as well.
Kelsey has an Urgent Care appointment in Flagstaff at Canyon Pet Hospital. Unfortunately, it was a long wait-time to have her bandage changed. But, we came home to Tom cooking up dinner on the barbecue. Yummy beer can chicken!
Monday was another drive to Canyon Pet Hospital. Jamie needed his leg bandage changed. Kelsey had her monthly acupuncture treatment. Dr. Amstutz suggested that Kelsey's bandage be taken off for the procedure. I was able to look at the wound. It is getting smaller.
Kelsey loves the peanut butter "on a stick" that the veterinarian assistant gives her during acupuncture.
Last week, the veterinarian noticed that Kelsey has been rubbing under her chin. The skin was getting raw. So, Kelsey now has a cone around her neck too.
The two cone-heads look cute outside too!
On Wednesday, Tom received his new cell phone. His old phone was damaged by rain several weeks ago. He is a happy camper!
That evening, Tom barbecued Omaha Steaks hamburgers.
Thursday, I went to Results Fitness gym. That evening, after dinner, Tom and I went to a local church to hear Arizona Governor candidate Kari Lake. For 27 years, Keri Lake had been an NBC news anchor in Phoenix.
Kari is conservative and articulate.  We'll see what happens...

Friday morning, Tom and I played pickleball in the Rodeo Barn.
Greg Stroud has begun playing with us. He and his wife have property up Perkinsville Road. Greg is a retired one-star Air Force General. He was a pilot. Like Jon, he is very athletic.

Later in the day, I went for a walk in the Kaibab national forest behind our Highland Meadows community.
That evening, Tom and I had a "date night" at the Western View Steakhouse. The Friday night's special is prime rib. Yummy! We also listened to music by Omar.
Saturday morning, there was pickleball play in the Rodeo Barn. The Grand Canyon Railway had the steam engine heading up to the Grand Canyon. I love that steam engine!
Later in the day, I walked to Cataract Lake. Beautiful cloud formations.
I tried to walk around the lake. But, with the heavy amount of monsoon rain, it was too soggy.

On Monday, Tom and I took Kelsey and Jamie to Canyon Pet Hospital for bandage changes. The doctor thought it best to not bandage Kelsey again. She wants to let the wound air-dry. Lucky Kelsey!
After pickleball Tuesday morning, I went to have lunch with the Highland Meadows Ladies at Dara Thai Restaurant. This Thai restaurant recently moved to a new location, Twisters. I ordered Shrimp Pad Thai. Delicious!
Wednesday was a busy day. Colleen Hatton came at 9:00 a.m. to clean the house.
Atomic Pest Control dropped by. I recently called the office and said that the disks installed to keep away our front porch bats was not working. The gentleman moved some of the disks for better coverage.
Tom and I left for Flagstaff. We had breakfast at the Toasted Owl Restaurant.
After breakfast, we ran a couple of errands before our noon dental appointments. When filling up my truck with gas, Tom did a nice job cleaning my windshield.
After our dental appointments, Tom had an appointment to obtain TSA PreCheck. That will be nice when we travel together.

Thursday, I had a pedicure and manicure appointment at 66 Nails Spa. Jennifer informed me that at the end of the year, she and Will are moving their business to Flagstaff. Darn!
I needed to get some exercise for the day, so I walked from our house to town and back. On my return from town, I walked on Cataract Lake Drive and took a photo of the very full lake.
Friday, I had a hair appointment in Flagstaff. I brought home sushi from Safeway for dinner.

Saturday, I walked the Highland Meadows neighborhood. The black-eyed Susan sunflowers are in full form.
Later that afternoon, we didn't have monsoon rains, so Tom and I enjoyed adult beverages and Jamie and Kelsey hung out with us.
Sunday morning, I found a snake in the back yard. I found a smaller snake the day before. It seems that all the monsoon rain is bringing these reptiles over to my yard to dry out.
Tom has been thinking about buying an electric bicycle. My Flagstaff friends, Sandra and Ed Smith, have enjoyed their ebikes for several years. I reached out to them about the type of bikes they have. They invited us over to their home to see them and ride their ebikes. Ed did a lot of research and favors Rad Power bikes.
Before going for our ride in the Coconino National Forest, Sandra served some hamburgers for lunch. Sandra and Ed's home has a gorgeous view of Mt. Humphreys.
After lunch, we headed out to the forest. Like our place in Williams, the forest is just down the street. Ed lead the way and Sandra was in the back.
Tom and I really enjoyed the one hour tour on the ebikes!
For off-road biking, the fat tires were perfect. They helped protect us from the dirt and rocky terrain. I am now an ebike fan too!

Monday evening, we had an active thunder and lightening night. We continue to welcome the rain too.
Tuesday morning, I played pickleball in the Rodeo Barn. For lunch, the Highland Meadows ladies group met at Becky Rappold's home. It was a delicious potluck and Becky presented her Young Living Essential Oils products.
Wednesday, Tom had an appointment at Flagstaff Surgical Associates Audiology. He has some severe hearing loss. Kerry Beasley is going to fit Tom with hearing devices that will improve his hearing and possibly diminish his tinnitus --- ringing in the ear.
When the hearing devices come in, Tom will try them out for several weeks. It is a trial period with no obligation to purchase.

After pickleball on Thursday, Tom and I drove to Prescott Valley. There is a bike dealer that represents a line of e-bikes that caught our eye --- Aventon Aventure. At home, we saw a video comparing the Rad Power bikes with the Aventon Aventure.
Unfortunately, e-bikes are very popular now and there is very low inventory. We gave our two names to the Archer's Bikes associate who manages their receipt of Aventure bikes. They only receive four or five bikes every two weeks.

When we got home, Tom and I decided to order our Aventure bikes on-line. Perhaps we will receive them at a quicker pace. I ordered the step-through version.

On Saturday, I walked to Cataract Lake. It was a beautiful day.
My brother Peter and his wife Terry flew to Seattle to attend a friend's birthday party and to see their youngest son Jack. They texted me a fun photo of their picnic on Vashon Island.
Their oldest son, Michael, flew up for the weekend too. Jack has a special lady in his life, Cerina.
Sunday morning, we played pickleball on the tennis courts. There is a couple from Wickenburg who are staying in Williams for several weeks. So, we had a nice time playing with Donna and John Fry.
That afternoon, I mentioned to Tom that I would like to have a "date night." The Thai restaurant is not open on Sundays, so we went to DJ's Wild West Junction. They had a prime rib special --- yummy, yummy! They also had live music. It was a very fun evening!
Monday was my weekly trip to Canyon Pet Hospital for Jamie's bandage change. Tom had an optometrist appointment with Dr. Mahanti. So, we carpooled. Jamie often likes to come into our walk-in closet and cuddle in my hanging clothes.
Tuesday, we played pickleball in the Rodeo Barn. It was a good group of nine of us.
Later in the day, I had a facial appointment with Amy Aranda at Junto Skin & Laser in Flagstaff.

Wednesday, I had an appointment in Flagstaff. My dermatologist, Dr. Sara Risner, was performing minor surgery to remove a basal cell carcinoma on my chest. Tom was kind enough to be my driver for the afternoon. We concluded the day in Flagstaff by going to an early dinner at Karma Sushi.
Some locals think that Karma Sushi is the best sushi restaurant in Flagstaff. This was my first visit. The sushi was good and beautifully presented.
Thursday evening was a very nice sunset. It seems that the monsoon season is over.
Friday was another pickleball morning in the Rodeo Barn. A couple from Sedona joined us --- Debbie and Bob Cafia. They are camping at White Horse Lake for several days. Debbie and Bob play racketball players and they are very strong pickleball players. It was a fun challenge!
That afternoon, I had a 90 minute massage with Tifni Sutton at Rehab Relax Massage. My former masseuse, Natanya Nagy, recently closed her business and left Williams for New Jersey. She and her husband have separated. Paul informed Natanya that he no longer loves her --- after 41 years of marriage!!! Natanya is such a sweetie pie. I feel for her. 💕

On Friday morning, we played pickleball on the tennis courts. A couple from Sedona, Debbie and Bob Calfia, joined us. They were very good players. It was fun!
On Saturday morning, my niece Katelyn and her fiance Dan sent out an email updating invitees about their October 2 wedding near Bend, Oregon. They want everyone attending the wedding to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. They want everyone to send copies of their vaccine cards. Tom and I are not vaccinated. Neither are Katelyn's other two aunts --- Carrie and Kim. Family members also not vaccinated are Carrie's husband Brent and Carrie's daughter Lauren. I know that Katelyn's mother, Wendy, did not want Katelyn and Dan to make this mandate. So, Tom and I will not be attending the wedding. Too bad!
I spent the next few days cancelling our reservations. Fortunately, we were only charged a $40 cancellation fee for the cabin we rented on the Metolius River in Camp Sherman.

That day, I talked to my sister-in-law Terry. She shared with me devastating news. My niece Molly and her husband Matt are getting a divorce. They have been married four years and have a one year old daughter. Matt thinks that he is gay and doesn't want to be married anymore. Heartbreaking, for sure!
One of my deceased brother John's friends --- Paul Hoffman --- shared a photo of him depositing a shell in John's memory at Mammoth Lakes. How wonderful is that!
On Sunday, my ASUS laptop computer went dark. It was the blue screen of death. The good news is I have a back-up notebook computer. I always back-up my Quicken data and my photos. But, I lost my documents. I put a call into a local computer repair fellow, Mr. Pete. That same morning, a group of us played pickleball on the tennis courts. This would be our last play on these courts for awhile.
The tennis courts are going to be refurbished. A private party, Mike Manley, is donating $60,000 for the project. The City of Williams is providing $15,000 for a new fence.

Monday, I took Jamie to Canyon Pet Hospital to have his leg splint bandage changed. In the afternoon, I went walking in the Kaibab National Forest right outside our Highland Meadows community. There are four trains a day that pass through this area.
It was a beautiful day for a walk in the woods. Mr. Pete called me back. I took my computer over to his place. He said that he would try to repair it. In the meantime, I prepared my HP notebook with needed applications and programs.

The "check engine" light on my Dodge truck came on.  The Flagstaff Planet Dodge service department is backlogged. They can not see my truck for two weeks. So, I took it to JJ's Auto Repair here in Williams. Jimmy checked the error code. It was PO304 --- something to do cylinders failing to fire. He said that it was safe to drive the truck until my appointment at the dealership.
Our Highland Meadows Ladies met for lunch at Red Raven Restaurant. We were a group twelve and took two tables.
That afternoon, Tom and Jon drove to Flagstaff. There was a fishing boat with a trailer for sale on Facebook. The owner is moving to Texas and he lowered his asking price. Tom bought the boat. It will be temporarily housed in our garage. The boat trailer needs to be sanded and painted.
My sister Carrie --- who has two yellow labs --- posted a photo of Sadie and Hollister enjoying Todd Lake near their second home in Bend.

Monday, June 17 to Sunday, June 30, 2024: Alaska Bound, Geocaching, Appointments in Flagstaff,

Donna and David and their dog Doug are on their way to Alaska. They started the trek on the Alaska Highway in Dawson Creek, British Columbia...
