Friday, August 18 through Wednesday, September 13, 2023: Birth of Lily, Hot Tub Enjoyment, Clouds, Geocaching, and Pickleball

Friday, August 18, my sister Wendy texted me. Her first grandchild, Lily was born. Lily was breached, so my niece Katelyn had to have a C-Section. Great photos of the Kuwata and the Wallace families.

Since getting the new hot tub, I have enjoyed it daily. Tom joined me in the hot tub several of the afternoons.
We have one fence post on the northern side of our house that needs to be repaired. Through Amazon, we purchased a metal device that allows us to secure the weakened post. Thank-you POSTUP Fence Repair Kit!!! 😀😀😀
On Monday, Tom and I drove to Flagstaff. Tom had an appointment with the Kidney Specialists. He was supposed to see Dr. Yousman, but she was called away due to a family emergency. So, we saw Dr. Wong, instead. Dr. Wong and Dr. Yousman happen to be husband and wife! Tom prefers Dr. Wong as he speaks better English.
Due to Tom's high blood pressure, the doctors have requested that Tom be on a low sodium diet. I have a new hobby. It is to find good tasting recipes that are low in salt. The internet is so helpful!
One recipe is Shrimp Boil. While this recipe has more sodium that is recommended, we decided to use up the smoked sausage in the freezer.
On Tuesday, Handyman Jeremy came back to complete a few more home improvement projects.
The first project Jeremy tackled was the kitchen garden window. He replaced the old, lumpy window sill ledge.
Jeremy is fairly talkative, but he works quickly. The new window sill looks wonderful!
That same day, nine of us played pickleball pickleball for several hours.

Kelly and Sivert's son, Josh, was visiting from Phoenix. Josh is only 29, so he gave Jon a good workout.
Wednesday, I joined the Highland Meadows Ladies for lunch at Frontier Family Fun BBQ.

That evening, I made Halibut with Creamy Garlic and Herb Sauce. I served it with wild rice. It was DELICIOUS 🔥🔥🔥 The halibut is expensive, but it is so good!!!
Thursday afternoon, when walking the dogs around the block, we were greeted by a beautiful cloud formation.
The next morning, a sunrise shared the wonder of different clouds.
On Friday, Tom and I did some geocaching. We had tried to find the "Getting Out there in Williams" multi-cache a month ago. The cache container was missing. Several days earlier, the cache owner told me that the container was finally replaced.

Tom and I sensed that the mosquitos were in full force that day. So, we only found one more cache called "Gnarly Nellie Hill."
Besides mosquitos, an unplanned thunderstorm arrived. So, it was good that we stopped when we did.

That same day, Jon and Sivert went shed-hunting. Jon is so good at finding antlers!
On Saturday, four of us played pickleball with Chris and Linda Sullivan from California's East Bay. They were in Northern Arizona for a nephew's wedding. Chris and Linda were really good players, so it was a fun morning.

On Sunday, there was pickleball play in the afternoon. Before pickleball, Jon came over early and enjoyed time with his dad.
That evening, there were four deer grazing across the street --- three does and one young buck.
Tuesday evening, we had filet mignon steak for dinner with boiled potatoes and steamed asparagus.
On Wednesday, I walked to Williams. On the west end of Route 66, I saw this cross. It was new. Sadly, an 18 year old young man was killed in a motorcycle accident.

The deceased, Jonathan McMahon, was originally from Las Vegas, but he lived here in Williams with this family.

I never tire of seeing the big sign welcoming people to Williams. There are three of these signs located at the three town entrances.
On Thursday, our second full moon in August appeared. This second full moon is called a Super Blue Moon.
I have a large butterfly bush in the front yard. It was fun seeing a butterfly enjoying the purple blossoms.
Jamie and Kelsey can be so patient waiting for their "mother" getting ready for a walk around the block.
But then, they also do enjoying their early morning sleep.
There was some good pickleball play. Two gentlemen from Sun City were in town. Ed and Jerry were good 4+ players.
August 31 was Barbara Bernstein's 84 birthday. Granddaughter Meghan posted several photos from the dinner celebration.

This is the season of the wild sunflowers. So beautiful!
Saturday, there was pickleball play at 10:00 a.m. It was a nice group of six players. A woman from Lake Havasu City, Joan Schulze, joined in the fun.
Barbara Coad's birthday was Sunday, September 3. I called her. She and her friend Judy went to the afternoon Dodger game against the Atlanta Braves. The Dodger's won.
At 1:00 p.m., I played pickleball with Greg and Di Jonsen. They are back in town for several weeks.
Also playing pickleball were Kelly and Sivert Fogerlie. Their 32 year old daughter Sarah is visiting them for several days.
After pickleball play, Tom and I went to the Grand Canyon Brewery. They are hosting the Williams Labor Daze event.

It was basically a beer tasting event and games for the kids. Unfortunately, they only had one ticket booth and the line was too long. So, Tom and I did not partake. We did take a look at the new distillery building.

I still wanted a beer. We ended up going to Frontier Family Fun and Barbecue for two Piehole Porters and listened to music by Xander Rodriguez.

It was a nice setting and very relaxing. In the evening, there were fireworks. The city of Williams does a great fireworks show.

On Labor Day, the dogs and I parked at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel parking lot. We then walked around Williams. There are always fun photos taken.

When the dogs and I came back home, Tom and I went geocaching up County Road 74 --- taking the Deer Farm exit off Interstate 40. We found the cache "Curb Appeal." I left a bottle cap.
There was another cache up the road on Radio Hill. Tom and I both did not have the right shoes to climb a hill, so we'll look for it another day.

There was a Wednesday post on Instagram. Meghan and Emily went to the Hollywood Bowl with Barbara Bernstein. It is nice seeing Barbara "out and about."
On Thursday, I had a manicure and pedicure appointment with Alie Rico. Afterwards, I drove the short distance to Kaibab Lake and walked around the lake. It was a beautiful afternoon.
On Saturday, I drove up to Santa Fe Reservoir. I parked the truck off of Perkinsville Road. I walked to the end of the lake and back.

On Sunday, Francesco and Thomas posted photos of them riding bikes in London.

On Monday, I had a 90 minute massage appointment in Flagstaff. Emily Johnson left Northern Arizona Massage Therapy last month. She suggested that I try massage therapist Karol Gobster. I did and she is excellent!
I arrived early in Flagstaff, so I decided to find a geocache near the Riordan Mansion. I was successful and found the Todos Unidos: Riordan/Los Chantes cache. I had to pull on the wire to get the cache out.

On Tuesday, Tom had an appointment with sleep doctor, Mohamed El-Harakeh in Prescott. Dr. El-Harakeh is my sleep doctor too. We left our house early --- to have lunch in Prescott. We went to Culver's for lunch. It was a few blocks away from Dr. El-Harakeh's office.
Dr. El-Harakeh met with Tom. He liked Tom's sleep scores with his Bi-PAP. He ordered an overnight Oxygen test. One reason Tom might be waking up after an hour of sleep is that he is not getting enough Oxygen. Dr. El-Harakeh suggested that Tom talk with Dr. Figueroa about increasing the dosage of one medicine and adding another. Our next appointment with Dr. Figueroa is next week.
On Wednesday, the Highland Meadows Ladies Group dined at El Comedor Cardenas.
I purchased a three-taco entre. I ate one taco for lunch and Tom and I had the remaining food for dinner that night. We packed for our three-night trip to Zion Lodge and Zion National Park.
