Monday, June 17 to Sunday, June 30, 2024: Alaska Bound, Geocaching, Appointments in Flagstaff,

Donna and David and their dog Doug are on their way to Alaska. They started the trek on the Alaska Highway in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Canada.
On Monday, I took the truck on the other side of Signal Hill. I was determined to find the "Travel to Signal Hill" cache. Last autumn, the forest was cleared of a number of Ponderosa pine trees. Since big trucks are required to haul the lumber out of the forest, the road to Signal Hill was good. I parked the truck at Forest Road 130 and walked one-half mile up to the cache location.
Near the top of Signal Hill was a hut with connecting telephone wires.
It was nice having a dirt road to walk on. Yesterday's failure to find the Signal Hill cache was walking through the forest. I found the cache container. Yes! It was hidden in a pile of rocks.

The cache container was a ammunition box. Inside the box was a trackable "Arizona Saguaro Travel Bug."
I took this trackable and I left a trackable "Cache Crate Adventures Tag US Traveler."
The views from Signal Hill were wonderful! There was Bill Williams Mountain.
And, there was Mt Humphreys in the distance.
On this very day, I received an email that Azamara was cancelling the cruise from Athens to Dubai in November. Barbara Coad and I were hoping that this would happen. Azamara cancelled the cruise because of all the unrest between Israel and Palestine. They were looking out for the safety of the passengers. So, we get 100% of our deposit back.

My brother Peter and his wife Terry celebrated 42 years of marriage on June 19. Peter texted me this cute photo of the two of them in 1982.
The Highland Meadows Ladies had lunch at the Grand Canyon Brewery. Afterwards, I drove Jamie to Flagstaff for his weekly physical therapy session at Canyon Pet Hospital.

Tom's son, Jon, is back in Williams. He drove up from Casa Grande on Wednesday, Juneteenth. Thursday morning, Jon and I went to the pickleball courts and drilled. Jon also brought his new ball machine. It is a lot smaller in size than his old ball machine. It also weighs less. The nice feature is the machine is tied to an app on Jon's phone.
Later, I drove back to Flagstaff to get a massage from Mike Hippard. Mike has magic fingers for my body!

Saturday, June 1 through Sunday, June 16, 2024: Geocaching, Nearby Lakes, Pickleball, Car Show, and Rodeo

Saturday morning, Tom and I drove to White Horse Lake. There are two caches that I want to find. The last time I drove to White Horse Lake, it was already closed for the season. On our way up Perkinsville Road, three large 18 wheeler trucks were off loading sheared sheep into the large flock.

It was fun seeing the sheep. The sheep spend the summer/early fall in the Kaibab Forest and are herded down to the Kingman area for the ;ate fall/winter.

Tom and I were surprised that the White Horse Lake Campground and the Day Use Area were not super crowded. We found a good parking space and walked to the first cache. Tom immediately found the "Frog Town" cache container.

I left a bottle cap "Not all who wander are lost." The second cache was closer to the lake. It was a beautiful day at the lake

It was nice seeing kayaks and canoes on the lake.
As we neared the "White Pony" cache, we came upon another geocache hunter. This is a first for us! Nacho lives in Chino Valley and he was up at White Horse camping, fishing, and geocaching.
The cache had not been found on May 17, but Explorergal and Nacho found it! I left a bottle cap "Found It!" in the cache container.
I always like the first Saturday of the month. From April to October, the Grand Canyon Railway runs a steam engine up to the canyon. The engine is actually fueled by recycled cooking oil.
My sister Carrie and her girlfriend Cynthia are in France for ten days. Cynthia lost her husband recently, so Carrie is her travel mate. She sent me a text of her near Nice on the Cote D'Azur.

On Sunday, I decided to walk around nearby Kaibab Lake.

The water level was high, so I was not able to complete the walk all around the lake. Fortunately, there was a way to navigate back to Country Club Road.

That evening, eight or nine mule deer wandered by our house --- using the vacant lot.
Monday morning, Tom had his Subaru oil changed at JJs Automotive. He dropped off his car and I picked him up. On our way back home, the Grand Canyon Railway diesel train was headed up to the canyon.
Tuesday, we had 10:00 a.m. pickleball play. Christine Sturgeon, a USAPickleball District Ambassador, came up to Williams from Sedona. Christine played pickleball with six of us. As an Ambassador, her role is to expand and promote pickleball throughout Northern Arizona.
We had one active court and rotated players.

It was a great two hours of pickleball. Afterwards, Christine and five of us went to lunch at Gateway Sandwich Company.

At 2:30 p.m., I put Jamie in the truck and we drove to Flagstaff. Today was going to be his first full-bore physical therapy session. The Veterinary technician was Sandra.

Halfway through the 1 1/2 hour session, Sandra put Jamie in the water treadmill for ten minutes.

The experience was amazing. But, it was a long day. I am dedicated to having Jamie's hind legs getting strong.

On Instagram, my sister Carrie shared more photos of her trip in France. She and Cynthia are now in Provence.
It looks like they are having a great time. Lucky them!

Thursday was June 6. It was the 180th Anniversary of D-Day. Richard and I visited Normandy and the American Cemetery and Memorial a number of years ago. It was so very moving.
Tom had an appointment in Flagstaff with a member of the Cardiologist Dr. Wani. We met with Nurse Practitioner, Summer Johnson. Good news! Tom's lab work was excellent. 😊😊😊
After that appointment, Tom and I went shopping at Walmart. We then had lunch at Taverna Mediterranean Grill --- a nearby Greek Restaurant.
That evening, there was a magnificent summer sky. My neighbor snapped this beauty!
Later, Tom realized that the toilet seat in our master bathroom was broken. The toilet was purchased in October of last year. We'll have to call Sutton Plumbing on Monday to see if it is under warranty.
Saturday, Tom and I went to the second day of the Williams 9th Annual Historic Route 66 Car Show. We parked our car at about 9:30 a.m. It was a perfect time of day. The afternoon was going to get hot --- high 80s. There were over 500 entries this year. Tom and I started in the middle and walked east.

At the east end, we turned around and headed West.

When we reached the west end, we turned around to head back to our parked car. There was a cute couple from Chandler dressed in 1950s period pieces.
There was a 1956 Lincoln Continental Mark II. I had Tom take my photo with the car. My Seattle cousin, Jim Chantler, is active in the Lincoln Continental Owners Club. He owns a prize-winning Lincoln.
Later in the afternoon, Tom and I watched the Belmont Stakes Horse Race. The winner was a 3 year old male named Dornoch.
Sunday afternoon, a group of deer passed by our next door lot.

That evening, we met friends Deborah and Bob Fischler for dinner at DJ's Wild West Junction. WE had not seen them since 2021. Debbie and Bob have a home in Santa Fe and a home in Southern California. They decided to spend the night in Williams to avoid the sweltering heat of the Mohave Desert. They have two Shelties --- Kai and GiGi.
Debbie and Bob take their dogs everywhere. The Junction Restaurant has a dog friendly patio.
Over dinner, the Fischlers shared with us that they sold their home in Bel Air and purchased a large condominium in La Jolla. The condo property is where the old Scripts Hospital used to be located.

My niece, Lauren, and her boyfriend Cody, took their son Colter on a hike in Georgia.
My sister Carrie posted another photo of her trip in France. She returns home very soon.
Donna and David left Southern California. They stayed at Atlati Rock Campground in Valley of Fire State Park outside of Las Vegas.

Donna and David are making their way up to Canada and then Alaska.

One of my Highland Meadows neighbors, Emiko, has Multiple Sclerosis. She also had some lung cancer. She has been in the Flagstaff Medical Center for over a week. Fortunately, she was moved out of ICU and is now in a private room. She looks very happy!
Sutton Plumbing said that the toilet seat is not under warranty. So, I called American Standard to get a toilet seat part number. Amazon had the toilet seat, so the new one came the next day.
I played pickleball on Tuesday. We had a nice group of six. Six is a good number for pickleball. A new addition to the group is Monique from Sun City West.
After pickleball, I took Jamie to Flagstaff. He had his second physical therapy appointment at Canyon Pet Hospital. Sandra (aka Sandy) took care of him. He had infrared therapy and enjoyed the water treadmill. For this second appointment, Jamie was in the water treadmill for twenty minutes.

Colleen Hatton came on Wednesday to clean our house. She now has a very cute Pontiac Convertible.
At lunchtime, I went to the Pizza Factory. The Highland Meadows ladies dined in the restaurant and enjoyed the gathering.
Colleen Hatton came to our home on Thursday. She has a very cute Pontiac convertible car that once was owned by her son. What a cutie!
I had an appointment with my chiropractor in Flagstaff, Dr. Moseng. He does a fine job keeping me fit.
After my appointment with Dr. Moseng, I took advantage of finding a cache container near Starbucks and the Flagstaff Liquor Store. It was a bison container titled "SB Stars."
Before my 1:30 p.m.facial appointment with Amy Aranda, I stopped by Warner's Nursery. There, I talked to a tree doctor arborist about the one Aspen that is not creating leaves. The gentleman said that the Aspen was probably dead and that it should be cut down. Since there are leaves at the base of the tree, the arborist said that it would be okay to cut down the tree just about the leaves. When I arrived home, Tom helped me perform this task.
Friday was June 14 --- Flag Day.
While we always fly our flag, the Auxilary of Veterans of Foreign Wars left a lovely Americanism Award tied to our flag. One classy act, for sure!
That same morning, the City of Williams held a Community Lean-Up Day. Tom and I showed up at the Visitor Center parking lot at 8:15 a.m. We decided to go to the True Value Hardware store and pick up trash along Rodeo Road.

After several hours, Tom and I were ready to stop the clean-up. We went home for several hours and returned for the noon cook-out of hamburgers and hotdogs.
The day was well-organized and helpful to our community. That afternoon, I had Tom take a picture of me with my blooming Peonies.
That evening, Tom and I enjoyed a beautiful sunset.
On Saturday morning, I went to check on two of my hidden caches. Three geocachers were not able to find the pine cone cache container last month. But, it was there! A geocaching person said that the cache container at Santa Fe Dam was no longer hanging. So, Tom and I went to the cache site. The container was on the ground. So, I switched out the container to a bison tube.
It was a beautiful day at Santa Fe Dam.

Williams hosts a lot of rodeos on the Rodeo Grounds. This weekend was the Cowpunchers Reunion Rodeo.

On Sunday, I tried to find the "Travel to Signal Hill" cache. Sometimes it is difficult to find the best navigation to a cache. I parked in a cabin/housing area west of Highland Meadows. I parked my truck on Wilderness Trail and walked along an unnamed forest road. I saw three Elk does, but the hill I climbed was not Signal Hill.
I didn't want to climb down the hill and then climb back up the right hill. So, I just walked back to my truck.

We caught another mouse in the garage trash can. So, I let the mouse out on Wilderness Trail.
