Wednesday, December 4 through Wednesday, December 18, 2024: Life and Activities at Palm Creek Resort

Wednesday morning, we enjoyed a beautiful sunrise.
In the early afternoon, Kelsey and Jamie had appointments at Casa Grande Animal Hospital.

They both had their Librela shots administered, Kelsey had her anal glands expressed, and Kelsey and Jamie had physical exams with Dr. Avery Welch.

Regarding the Site #728 home for sale, I decided that the timing was not right. All of my liquid assets are in my large IRA account managed by Morgan Stanley. If I were to take the funds out of this account, all the money would be taxed as ordinary income. This is not good. We also still have a fourteen month commitment on the lease of our current Site #924. So, I contacted Linda, the real estate agent, and told her that I would have to pass on a purchase.

Next year, perhaps I get a home equity loan on my Williams home and come back to Palm Creek with available cash in my pocket.

Friday morning, I took the two cars to Circle K for gasoline fuel. The price for gasoline in Casa Grande is excellent --- $2.49 per gallon.

The prior day, I had driven to Chandler for a facial with Heather Liston. I also stopped at Sam's Club.
For Friday lunch, Tom and I went to Creative Cafe.

This restaurant has delicious Clam Chowder soup on Fridays. I had an egg salad sandwich and a bowl of chowder. Tom had a chicken salad sandwich with a cup of soup. Yummy, yummy!

Cathy Watson works for Palm Creek Resort. We have mutual friends in Joyce and Don Wells of Paso Robles, California. I visited the Activities Center to say hello. I first met Cathy in 2022.

Palm Creek Resort is the host sight of the National Senior Pickleball Tournament for December 5, 6, and 7. Over 540 players participated in the tournament. Tom and I rode our bikes on Saturday to the pickleball courts to see some of the games.

Jon has been attending the U. S. Senior Pickleball National Championship games every day. He is two years too young to be a contestant.

Tom and I had a photo shoot with several of the logo signs.

On Sunday, I went to church with friends Sue and Scott Svejar. They took me to the Pinal County Cowboy Church.
There was nice music.

Pastor Tim Pruit's pulpit is a large saddle.

Later in the afternoon, I went to play a paddle game called Bumbee Ball. There are five or six people on each side of the court. The paddle is like a tennis racket but with a shorter handle. The ball is large and very soft.

The dogs do enjoy the spacious living room where they can nap.

On Tuesday, I brought out the Christmas decorations that I carted down from home. Above the fireplace, I have the little LED tree. I bought this fun Christmas tree years ago in Fredericksburg, Texas. It is one of my favorites.

I also have the Hallmark snow globe with the Nutcracker theme.

And, there is the lighted two foot Christmas tree which is only one-half in dimension. Richard and I bought this years ago when we went to Santa Rosa, California, for Christmas with the Boggs family.

On the outside, I bought three additional strands of white lights for the palm tree. I also added a six foot strand of color lights for Christmas.

I also put some poinsettia around two of the solar lights and hung a sledding Dalmatian on the front of the trailer.

I was sad to find out that Marshall Rutter passed away. He was in his early 90s. Marshall and Richard were law partners for 30 years. His Celebration of Life service is in Pasadena on January 11. I'll be there!

Tom and I had afternoon appointments with chiropractor, Dr. Tim Hoyt. He adjusted us both.

Jon's 48th birthday was Saturday, December 14. Tom and I celebrated Jon's birthday on Monday night. We took him to a Mexican Restaurant called Su Casa Grande.

The food was delicious. They even prepared our very own salsa order at our table.

Tom went to an early Tuesday morning appointment to see my optometrist Dr. Kenneth Jeffers. Dr. Jeffers conducted an eye exam for Tom.

Dr. Jeffer talked about dry eyes. Tom has the dry eyes condition. Dr. Jeffers says that this condition is more prevalent than cataracts and glaucoma combined. He gave Tom some suggestions to help --- heat compress, fish oil supplements, and eye drops.

Before leaving Williams, I bought a sling for Jamie. Tom and I have been taking turns using it on Jamie when he needs additional support.

One morning, Jamie and Kelsey shared the same dog bed. Cute!

Wednesday afternoon, Jon conducted a Pickleball training session with me and two other ladies --- Penny and Teresa. It was a great two hours!

That evening, I went to the Skills Games session on the pickleball courts. Rebecca Newman is the coordinator for organizing drilling and skills.

Thursday morning, Tom and I went to the 9:30 a.m. "Introduction to Lawn bowling" There were eight of us in the class. Lorna was the instructor.

Lawn bowling is more complicated than I expected. But, Tom and I joined the club.

After lawn bowling, I went to a geocaching event hosted by a local Casa Grande fellow named KennyV. The gathering of about twenty folks was at Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers off of Florence Boulevard.

Optometrist Dr. Jeffers suggested that Tom use a moist hot compress on his eyes --- twice a day for two weeks.

Friday morning, I drove to Chandler to meet with staff of Barnet, Dulaney, Perkins Eye Center. The cataracts in my eyes are now impacting my quality of life. I am ready to have the surgery. The last person I met with was Dr. Tracy Hutchings. She said that the back of my eyes looked very healthy, but that the cataracts were ready to be removed.

Instead of waiting to get back to Northern Arizona, I decided to get the surgery done while we are in Casa Grande.

The pond and fountain on the 7th hole of the golf course is always so enchanting.

Jamie had been showing more severe issues with his two back legs. My nephew Blake Carroll had a white dog that lost use of his back legs. Blake had a Florida company create a wheel chair platform for his dog. I contacted K9 Carts and ordered one for Jamie. It arrived on Friday. Tom and I assembled the cart and placed Jamie in it.

Sunday, I went back to Pinal County Cowboy Church with Sue and Scott. This time, we sat in the front row --- stage left. Once again, it was excellent.

One of our neighbors has lymphoma cancer. Tracy is going through rounds of chemotherapy. Her husband Jim is her driver, chef, and supporter. There was a neighborhood gathering at Tracy and Jim's park model. We sang Christmas carols and gave Tracy encouragement.

That afternoon, I went to another Bumbee Ball session. And, I joined the club.

In the evening, Jon organized a Mentored Round Robin. There were six pickleball courts with six instructors. It was excellent!

Early morning, there was the December 2024 full moon --- the Cold Moon. I loved the rich color!

Later in the day, the company, K9 Carts, asked that we take photo of Jamie in the cart and email them. We complied and they came back with some recommended adjustments.

The next day, we sent K9 Carts more photos of Jamie.

In the afternoon, Palm Creek had a Parkwide Holiday Party. Tom and I walked over to the grassy area by the clubhouse. We had a photo taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

We listened to a very good band called Outside the Line.

It was rather hot, so we found a table and chairs near the Bistro Cafe and enjoyed beer and wine. I went to one of the food trucks for cheesy French fries. Yummy!
